Boost your immune system with Float Therapy

Floatation Therapy helps to boost our immune system by promoting relaxation and decreasing anxiety and depression. Floating is proven to lower cortisol, our primary stress hormone, alleviating mental and physical stress.

In this talk from the 2018 Float Conference presentation, Ph.D. candidate and researcher, M.C. Flux breaks down the biochemical reactions that occur when we enter the fight-or-flight stage and how that triggers an immune response. He describes the interconnected relationship between our immune system, stress and relaxation and the effect of regular floatation-REST on our immune system.

Findings from this initial research illustrate how floating helps to boost our immune system:

  • The more sensitive a person is to anxiety, the more the immune system can benefit from floating.
  • The more anxiety a person experienced in the week prior, the more benefit they had by lowering inflammatory responses when floating.
  • The more relaxed a person felt while floating was proportional to the anti-inflammatory response they had.

Floating as a regular part of your wellness routine can help to increase relaxation and decrease stress and anxiety, which can lead to a stronger immune system.

Pumpkin Buddha Bowls

Servings: 2 

Ingredients:

Chickpeas & Pumpkin

  • 1 sugar pumpkin
  • 2 –30-ounces can chickpeas, drained
  • 4 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tsp cumin
Brussels Sprouts 
  • 4 cups brussels sprouts, washed, ends and brown leaves trimmed
  • 2 tbsp grated ginger
  • 2 small onions
  • 2 shallots
  • 4 tbsp soy sauce (or salt to taste)
Orange Tahini Sauce
  • 4 tbsp tahini
  • 4 tbsp orange juice
  • 2 tsp white rice vinegar
  • 2 tsp maple syrup
  • 2 tsp soy sauce or coconut aminos
  • orange zests (optional)
  • water to thin out
Additional Toppings
  • pumpkin seeds
  • sesame seeds
Instructions:

Chickpeas & Pumpkin
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Wash and drain the chickpeas (you can remove the skin if you prefer). Place them on paper towels and pat them dry.
  4. In a bowl, toss the chickpeas with 1 tablespoon olive oil. Sprinkle with the cumin and salt. Stir with a spoon to make sure they are evenly coated with salt and cumin. Place the chickpeas on one half of the baking sheet.
  5. Wash the sugar pumpkin, slice the stem off. Cut the pumpkin in half and scoop out the seeds and guts using an ice cream scoop.
  6. Cut one half into small cubes, reserve the other half for other uses.
  7. In a bowl, toss the pumpkin cubes with 1 tablespoon olive oil and sprinkle with salt. Place the pumpkin on the other half of the baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pumpkin is soft and the chickpeas golden brown.
Brussels Sprouts 
  1. Place the brussels sprouts, onion and shallot in the feed tube of a food processor fitted with slicing disk. Process in small batches.
  2. Heat some olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the shaved brussels sprouts, onions, shallots, and grated ginger to the skillet. Sauté for about 10 minutes and drizzle with soy sauce or coconut aminos. Season with pepper and divide into 3 serving bowls.
  3. Top with the roasted pumpkin and chickpeas, and drizzle with orange tahini sauce.
Orange Tahini Sauce
  1. Add all the ingredients to a small bowl and whisk until well combined. If needed, add one teaspoon of water at a time until you get the desired consistency.

Strawberry coconut-lime smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, chopped
  • 1/2 of an avocado, peeled and pitted
  • 1 Tbs. shredded coconut, unsweetened
  • 1 Tbs. ground flaxseed
  • 1 Tbs. fresh lime juice
  • 1 Tbs. honey
  • 1 1/4 cups raw, all-natural coconut water
Instructions:
  1.  Place all ingredients into a high-speed blender and whirl away until smooth.
